The Jewish demographic is broad and diverse, found in various social and professional networks. This is an inherent challenge as well as an opportunity. The institution can either be another unique point in this disparate constellation, or become a highly effective convener and co-creator for building inclusive community and connectivity.
As with any healthy relationship, the institutions’ connections cannot be laden with “agenda” and preconceived notions of who and what should be included. Through a commitment of honoring one another, we begin to deepen the connection and build a solid foundation for mutual investment.
Community forms as we begin to account for the broad and diverse landscape. The institution needs to be permeable and reflective of the spectrum of distinct and varied connections. The core of the institution (staff, leaders and volunteers) will be populated by this new and dynamic representative demographic. With limited resources, both human and financial, this intentional process is both strategic and focused.
SUMMING IT UP
Creating the organization is an outgrowth of this process. The identity, culture and “product” of all the organizational efforts, is an extension of the desires and passions of the disparate identities of those we seek to build community with. The institution is simply an expression of those people. This is our inspiration against which we measure our success.
